A Rare 15Th Waffen SS Grenadier Division (1St Latvian) Volunteer Tunic

DESCRIPTION

A rare tunic for a volunteer of the 15th Waffen-SS Grenadier Division (1st Latvian), constructed of (Italian) field-grey wool. The tunic features collar tabs with black wool machine-embroidered silver-grey sun and stars, representing Latvia’s three traditional regions of Courland, Letgallia, and Livland), and a plain left side rank tab for the rank of SS-Mann. The shoulders are flanked by a matching set of straps, each constructed of black wool and trimmed with white piping, secured with pebbled zink buttons on the inner edge. The upper left arm features black wool, machine-embroidered silver-grey SS-style German SS eagle of the Dachau type. Directly under the eagle stands a Latvian volunteer shield constructed of a red and white wool machine embroidery. Two pockets are set into each breast, all closing with scalloped flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting pebbled zink buttons. The right pocket has four loopholes for a silver wound badge (included in the sale but denazified) and an

Infantry Assault Badge (not included in the sale). Four sets of dual-reinforced eyelets are distributed around the waistband to accommodate an optional belt hanger. The tunic closes with five pebbled zink buttons on the right flap. A grey rayon liner partially encompasses the interior and presents plain except for a narrow pocket on the lower right flap, topped by black ink size marks. Minor issues consistent with age and light usage are evident. This rare field-worn Latvian SS volunteer’s tunic is in an overall near exce condition.
